A report in the Israeli daily Haaretz says the US push aims to help revitalise the postwar Palestinian economy.
Biden’s top energy adviser, Amos Hochstein, is in Israel to discuss the issue, the newspaper said.
“We shouldn’t exaggerate its potential, but it can absolutely be a revenue stream for a Palestinian government and to ensure there is an independent energy system for Palestine,” Hochstein said, as reported by Haaretz.
The Gaza marine field, nearly 32km (20 miles) off the coast of the besieged enclave, has remained undeveloped despite holding an estimated 28 billion cubic metres (1 trillion cubic ft) of natural gas, the Haaretz report said.
