The foreign minister of Iran Amir Abdollahian lashed out at the US for its attempts to militarize the Red Sea by using a recent United Nation Security Council resolution as an excuse, warning that the American measures will aggravate insecurity in the Red sea.
In a telephone conversation on Monday evening, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov talked about a range of regional and international issues including Red sea , as well as the relations between Tehran and Moscow.
Highlighting the determination of the two countries to expand relations, Amirabdollahian expressed hope that Tehran and Moscow would pursue the implementation of their previous agreements seriously.
He also referred to the important regional developments, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip, saying the continuation of the Zionist regime’s attacks against the enclave and the US’ interfering acts in the Red Sea will worsen regional instability.
Amirabdollahian said the US seeks to militarize the Red Sea, warning that such acts will escalate insecurity in the region.
The Iranian foreign minister Hossien Amir Abdollahian described the recent attacks on Yemen as a “strategic mistake” on the part of the US.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov hailed the excellent, friendly and strategic ties between Russia and Iran, noting that Russia unconditionally respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, most notably its sovereignty over the three islands in the Persian Gulf.
Lavrov also said the current situation in the Red Sea is the result of the escalation in Palestine that has also caused tensions in the wider region and in other countries.
The two foreign ministers also stressed the need to facilitate trade and transit between the two countries and underscored the importance of finalizing the comprehensive and strategic cooperation agreement between Tehran and Moscow.
