RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s logistics industry is poised for growth thanks to a new multiple temperature-controlled storage options facility at Jeddah Islamic Port.
Bahri, the Kingdom’s national shipping company, has laid the cornerstone for this new center, which will cover a total area of 95,436 sq. m.
According to a press statement, the new venture is expected to increase supply chain capabilities in the Kingdom, thus enabling multinational companies to establish their logistics hubs in the center.
Ahmed Ali Al-Subaey, CEO of Bahri, said that the center will improve national, regional, and global logistics sectors.
“Beyond enhancing our capabilities and positioning us favorably in the global logistics sector, the Bahri Logistics Center will allow us to capitalize on new opportunities, substantially enriching our role in elevating Saudi Arabia’s status as a global logistics hub,” said Al-Subaey.
The new base is expected to be operational in 2025 and will offer exceptional storage and handling capabilities with over 80,000 pallet positions, 40,000 shelving units, and an annual throughput exceeding 900,000 pallets.
The facility will be equipped with store reefer, insulated, and dry containers. It will also provide its customers various services, such as container maintenance, repair, cleaning, bonded storage, and haulage.
Omar Hariri, president of the Saudi Ports Authority, also known as Mawani, highlighted that the development will help achieve Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
The plan aims to increase the sector’s contribution to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product to 10 percent from the current 6 percent by 2030.
He further noted that the Bahri Logistics Center is a key component in Mawani’s efforts to strengthen the maritime transport and logistics division.
Earlier in February, Mawani announced it had established new anchoring areas in the King Fahd Industrial Port.
The newly established hook areas will help modernize several logistical services, including delivering ships with supplies and fuels, Mawani said in a statement.
The company added that the anchoring zones are expected to increase the operational performance indicators in the port, along with reducing the docking time of ships.
