The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, gave a briefing on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, especially the war of genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip.
This came during a high-level side event held by the State of Palestine on the sidelines of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, in the presence of many countries from all regional groups.
Al-Maliki stressed that the current situation in the Gaza Strip is extremely horrific, as for 144 days, Israel, the occupying power, has been targeting Palestinian civilians, including children and women, with lethal weapons, destroying residential buildings and infrastructure, targeting hospitals, schools, and shelter centers, and systematically destroying the health sector.
He added, “While this is happening, the international community is watching,” stressing at the same time that this “does not only constitute a failure of the Palestinian people, but rather a failure of all humanity.”
Al-Maliki pointed out to the participating countries that what is happening in Gaza is a stain on the conscience of humanity, “instead of the international community revolting against this brutality, Israel’s crime is being normalized and justified under the name of self-defense,” stressing that “everyone who uses this argument contributes to genocide.” It enables Israel to continue its colonial project and its oppression of the Palestinian people.”
Al-Maliki called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and exert pressure to stop the aggression immediately,
He further called for the need to provide protection for the Palestinian people and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
A number of Arab and foreign ministers participated in the event, led by the Chairman of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, and Finland, along with ministers from Qatar, the Emirates, and deputy ministers.
The participating ministers affirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the genocide they are being subjected to, stressing the danger of the Israeli aggression against the rights of the Palestinian people.
They also expressed their condemnation of the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, calling for holding Israel accountable for committing such crimes.
