President Mahmoud Abbas received Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf this evening at his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The meeting discussed the efforts exerted to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and deliver desperately needed humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged region.
During the meeting, President Abbas expressed deep appreciation for the leading role played by Algeria on both the political and diplomatic fronts, especially its submission of a draft resolution to the UN Security Council requesting recognition of the State of Palestine as full member of the top world body.
President Abbas discussed the efforts made to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and emphasized the urgent need to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to alleviate the famine faced by the Palestinian people there. He reiterated warnings against the dangers of a potential Israeli offensive in Rafah.
Meantime, the President discussed the dangerous Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, highlighting the daily raids on Palestinian cities, towns, and refugee camps, the killing and terrorizing of civilians, and the destruction of property by Israeli occupation forces.
Furthermore, President Abbas addressed the challenging economic and financial impasse faced by the State of Palestine due to the ongoing Israeli government’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
In response, Minister Attaf conveyed greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirming Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause in all international fora.
Earlier in the day, President Abbas arrived in Riyadh to participate in the special session of the World Economic Forum titled “Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development,” upon the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
