Leaders of Palestine, Egypt and Jordan today stressed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian state.
During a trilateral summit held on the sidelines of the “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” conference at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea area, President Mahmoud Abbas, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II stressed the need for the immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
They also stressed the need for the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, expediting the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip to avert the risk of famine due to the occupation’s control over and closure of all crossings, while affirming that the Strip is a part and parcel of and falls under the responsibility of the Palestinian state and the occupation’s schemes aimed at separating the Strip from the rest of the Palestinian territories are unacceptable and could not be dealt with.
The leaders underscored their rejection of Israel’s illegal practices that undermine the two-state solution, namely the ongoing colonial construction in the occupied West Bank, including in East Jerusalem, landgrab, home demolitions, forced expulsions of Palestinians and withholding the Palestinian tax revenues. They called for the immediate release of the withheld revenues.
They confirmed that just, comprehensive and sustainable peace remains a strategic choice, and necessary for regional and international security and peace. They noted that concerted efforts are required to achieve such peace while stressing the need for maintaining the historic and legal status in Jerusalem and at its holy sites as well as the rejection of all practices intended to undermine such a status.
They also stressed the importance for the international community to continue providing financial support to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) to maintain itsability to provide services to Palestinian refugees under its mandate.
They reiterated their keen interest in consolidating strategic relations involving Palestine, Jordan and Egypt and intensifying coordination to address developments and challenges related to the Palestinian question as part of their quest to contribute to the realization of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and aspirations.
King Abdullah II and Egyptian President al-Sisi reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian question as well as their countries’ unwavering positions in support of the Palestinian people and its legitimate and just rights, most notably their right to establish their independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law, UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
