During a phone call with his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s stance on the current situation in the Gaza Strip, expressing hope that the EU would take constructive actions in this regard.
These actions include demanding a ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid, and initiating political talks to establish an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, he noted.
Since the Gaza war began, Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement have exchanged cross-border fire almost daily, but attacks have escalated in June.
Last week, Hezbollah launched 200 rockets and a swarm of explosive drones at several Israeli military bases in northern Israel.
Israel, whose brutal war on Gaza has continued for more than nine months, is facing mounting international pressure to agree to a Gaza ceasefire
Since 7 October, Israeli forces have killed 38,153 people in Gaza, mostly children and women, injured 87,828 others, caused extensive damage to the strip’s infrastructure, and displaced most of its residents.

Furthermore, Abdelatty affirmed Cairo’s desire to closely coordinate with Hungary on various issues during its EU presidency, including promoting joint economic cooperation, increasing trade and investments, combating illegal immigration, and opening branches of distinguished Hungarian universities in Egypt, Abu-Zeid noted.
