On Saturday, Egypt’s Ministry of Health reported that a train collision near Zagazig in the Sharqia Governorate, northeast of Cairo, resulted in two fatalities and 29 injuries, according to initial reports.
Egyptian media outlets indicated that emergency services and civil defense forces rushed to the scene of the accident. The “Egyptian Today” website noted that the Sharqia Health Directorate responded immediately, dispatching 20 ambulances to transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
Additionally, a large number of local residents gathered at the accident site to assist the victims.
The Egyptian National Railways Authority confirmed that the collision involved a passenger train traveling from Zagazig to Ismailia and another train coming from Mansoura to Zagazig, occurring at Block 5 in Zagazig.
In response, a team comprising the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, the Minister of Industry and Transport, and senior railway officials was dispatched to the site. The Minister ordered the deployment of emergency equipment and the formation of a specialized committee to investigate the technical causes of the accident.
