Two Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of 16 Palestinians, including 5 women and 4 children, according to Palestinian officials.
One of the airstrikes, which took place early Monday, leveled a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. At least 10 people were killed, including 4 women and 2 children.
Al-Awda Hospital confirmed the death toll and reported that 13 others were injured. Hospital records indicate that the victims included a mother, her child, and five of their relatives.
A separate airstrike on a home in Gaza City claimed 6 more lives, including a woman and two children, according to the civil defense unit affiliated with Hamas.
Israel maintains that its strikes target militants, accusing Hamas and other armed groups of endangering civilians by operating within residential areas. However, the Israeli military rarely comments on specific strikes, which frequently result in the deaths of women and children.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that more than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed since Hamas launched an attack on October 7, igniting the ongoing conflict. The ministry does not distinguish between militants and civilians in its statistics but states that over half of the casualties are women and children.
Israel claims to have killed over 17,000 militants, though it has not provided evidence to support this figure.
