Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims about resolving the war in Ukraine are simply “campaign messages.”
Zelensky made these remarks during an interview with Fareed Zakaria on CNN. When asked about Trump’s statement that he could end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours, Zelensky expressed confusion. He said, “I don’t understand because I don’t know what he means,” and stressed that such statements often come during election campaigns and are not always genuine. Zelensky and Trump have exchanged public criticisms regarding these comments.
In March 2023, Trump claimed that if elected, he would end the war in one day by negotiating with both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump has often highlighted his relationship with Putin as a way to resolve the war. However, Putin recently suggested he would prefer Trump’s rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, to win.

Zelensky said he has a plan for Ukraine to win the war and rebuild afterward. He intends to share this plan with President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Trump.
He mentioned having a “good conversation” with Trump over the phone two months ago. Zelensky believes Trump would be supportive of Ukraine.
However, in his recent debate with Harris, Trump repeatedly refused to say he wants Ukraine to win against Russia.
