Former President Donald Trump has publicly shared, for the first time, the details of a recent assassination attempt against him. In an interview on X, Trump described the incident that took place while he was golfing on a Sunday morning.
“I was playing golf with some friends, enjoying a peaceful and beautiful morning,” Donald Trump said. “Suddenly, we heard four or five gunshots fired into the air.”
Trump praised the quick actions of the Secret Service agent who accompanied him. “We all got into the carts and moved swiftly. The agent did an excellent job,” he added. Trump also mentioned spotting the rifle barrel through some bushes.
The former president highlighted how a witness helped law enforcement by taking a picture of the suspect’s vehicle, which led to the arrest. “Who would have thought to snap such a picture? It was incredibly helpful,” Trump noted.

He commended the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for their exceptional work, expressing hope that the suspect would remain in custody for a long time. “A very dangerous individual,” Trump remarked.
On Monday, authorities charged the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, with possessing a firearm illegally and possessing a firearm with its serial number removed. Routh, who has previous felony convictions, appeared in federal court in West Palm Beach.
If convicted, Routh could face up to 15 years in prison for the firearm charge and additional time for the second charge. The FBI is leading the investigation with support from the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies.
