Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on Wednesday that Israel has entered a new phase in its conflict with Lebanon, with a shift in focus toward the northern front.
Shift of Focus to the North
Speaking at an Israeli Air Force base, Gallant said, “The center of gravity is moving north as we allocate more resources and forces to that region.” He emphasized that Israel is opening a new chapter in the war, which will require courage, determination, and perseverance.
Collaboration Across All Levels
Gallant stressed the importance of close cooperation between all organizations and levels of command during this phase of the conflict. His statements come following a series of explosions in Lebanon, which targeted wireless communication devices, resulting in the deaths of nine people and over 300 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. This followed a similar attack that killed 12 people the previous day.
Rising Tensions on the Northern Border
Israeli officials acknowledged on Tuesday that a significant escalation along the northern border is likely, particularly after the recent attacks. The Israeli military remains on high alert for a potential response from Hezbollah, although the group has not claimed responsibility for the “pager” explosions, it has vowed retaliation against Israel.
