United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned on Sunday about the dangers of turning Lebanon into “another Gaza” amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
In an interview with CNN, Guterres expressed concern just two days before the UN General Assembly, stating, “What worries me is the risk of turning Lebanon into another Gaza,” referring to the Palestinian territory where a devastating war has raged between Israel and Hamas since October.
Escalating Conflict Between Israel and Hezbollah
Tensions have risen sharply due to ongoing attacks between Israel and Hezbollah, reaching unprecedented levels in recent days. Israel’s recent strikes have killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters and leaders, utilizing wireless intercepts and aerial assaults.
In response, Hezbollah targeted Israel’s Ramat David airbase, a military industry complex, and several northern Israeli regions.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue fighting Israel until it agrees to a ceasefire in its war with Hamas in Gaza. The conflict began after Hamas launched a major attack on southern Israel on October 7.
Israel’s Demands
Israel demands that Hezbollah halt its attacks and withdraw its fighters from the border area, in compliance with the 2006 UN resolution, regardless of any agreement in Gaza.
