On Wednesday, Israel intensified its airstrikes across various regions of Lebanon amid escalating tensions and growing fears of a broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
For the first time, the Israeli bombardment targeted the mountainous village of Maaysra in the Keserwan area, north of Beirut, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency.
Residents of the predominantly Shia village, located in the largely Christian district of Keserwan, reported hearing two explosions. A witness described seeing a house and a café completely destroyed at the site of the strike.
The airstrike on Maaysra resulted in 4 fatalities and 9 injuries, according to the Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
In addition to Maaysra, Israeli airstrikes also targeted:
- The outskirts of Hermel in northeastern Lebanon.
- The towns of Labweh and Nabi Osmane in the Bekaa Valley, eastern Lebanon.
- The outskirts of Aramta in Jezzine, southern Lebanon.
- The mountainous regions of Jabal Safi and Mleeta, as well as the towns of Jbaa, Ain Bouswar, and Jarjouaa in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region.
- The Salhiya neighborhood in the city of Nabatieh.
- The towns of Jabchit, Shukin, and Al-Qusayba.
- The town of Al-Abbasiya in the Tyre district.
Israeli Army Statement
The Israeli military announced that it is conducting “extensive” airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, following the interception of a ballistic missile launched by Hezbollah over the Tel Aviv area.
In a statement, the military said it is “carrying out extensive strikes in southern Lebanon and in the Bekaa region,” which borders Syria, adding that further details would be provided later.
The statement also mentioned that the strikes are targeting Hezbollah positions and weapons storage facilities.
Furthermore, the Israeli military reported that approximately 40 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens in the region. Several of these rockets were intercepted.
The Israeli army emphasized that “Hezbollah continues to launch projectiles toward civilian areas and facilities on Israel’s home front.”
