Israeli media reported on Wednesday that 14 Israeli soldiers were killed during clashes in southern Lebanon. This comes as Israeli military sources acknowledged the death of an officer during battles in Lebanon, following an Israeli incursion across the border to target Hezbollah positions.
Israeli Army Confirms Officer Killed
The Israeli Army, in a statement, confirmed the death of Captain Eitan Isaac Oster, aged 22, who “fell during combat in Lebanon,” as reported by AFP. Meanwhile, Hezbollah also released a statement earlier in the day, announcing its involvement in new clashes with Israeli forces that “infiltrated” a town in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s statement said, “The Islamic resistance is engaged in battles with enemy troops who infiltrated into the town of Maroun al-Ras,” noting that these clashes “resulted in casualties among Israeli forces.” Later, Hezbollah stated that it detonated an explosive device targeting Israeli forces in the vicinity of the border town of Yaroun.
Drone Attack Injures Lebanese Soldier
In related news, the Lebanese Army reported that an Israeli drone targeted one of its units while working to open a road in southern Lebanon, resulting in injuries to a Lebanese soldier. The army’s statement said, “One soldier was injured following an attack by an Israeli drone while a unit was working to open the Marjayoun-Hasbaya road at the entrance of the town of Koukab to ensure safe passage for civilians.”
Iranian Attack Damages Israeli Bases
On the same day, the Israeli Army also acknowledged that several of its airbases were damaged during the recent Iranian attack on Israel. The military stated, “Several airbases were damaged in the Iranian attack; however, there was no significant damage to the infrastructure.” The army added, “Contrary to Iranian claims, no hypersonic missiles were launched.”
