On Tuesday, China expressed its opposition to the Israeli ground incursion into Lebanon, emphasizing its stance against any actions that may lead to further escalation in the region. Beijing highlighted its commitment to maintaining regional stability and avoiding conflict.
China’s Concern Over Regional Tensions
In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced its concerns about the ongoing situation between Lebanon and Israel. “China is deeply concerned about the current state of affairs between Lebanon and Israel and very worried about further escalation of regional tensions due to related military actions,” the ministry said.
Beijing firmly opposes any breaches of Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and rejects any actions that might worsen conflicts and contribute to increased tensions in the region. China urged Israel to take concrete steps to de-escalate the situation.
Israeli Military Operations
In contrast, Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated on Tuesday that the Israeli army is conducting “focused and limited operations” against Hezbollah targets near the border. According to Hagari, Hezbollah has established infrastructure in southern villages over decades, building tunnels under residential homes and storing weapons, similar to Hamas’ tactics during the October 7 incident.
Hagari also mentioned that the Israeli army has conducted dozens of ground operations in Lebanon, aimed at neutralizing this infrastructure. During these operations, Israeli forces entered Lebanese territory multiple times, gathered intelligence, and destroyed advanced Iranian-made weaponry and Hezbollah’s infrastructure.
The spokesperson noted that over 700 Hezbollah targets, including tunnels and weapons storage facilities, were destroyed in ground operations aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah’s capabilities. He accused Hezbollah of endangering Lebanon and the region by escalating tensions and violating UN Resolution 1701.
Rising Regional Tensions
China’s call for de-escalation comes amid rising tensions and escalating violence along the Lebanon-Israel border. The situation remains critical as international stakeholders urge restraint from both sides to prevent a wider regional conflict.
