The Lebanese army announced on Thursday that one of its soldiers was killed and another injured in an Israeli airstrike while they were participating in a rescue mission alongside the Lebanese Red Cross in southern Lebanon.
In a post on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter), the Lebanese military stated: “One soldier was martyred and another was wounded as a result of Israeli aggression while conducting an evacuation and rescue mission in the town of Taybeh-Marjeyoun in southern Lebanon, in cooperation with the Lebanese Red Cross.”
In addition to the soldier’s death, officials reported that four medics lost their lives during the same airstrike, which occurred as they were evacuating the wounded from the conflict zone in southern Lebanon.
Military Response and Escalation
A source within the Lebanese army confirmed that the military is repositioning its forces near the southern border in response to “limited operations” conducted by Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory. The source added that the Lebanese army is regrouping and reinforcing its positions close to the border with Israel.
The latest attack marks a significant escalation in the conflict along the Israel-Lebanon border, with casualties on both sides. On December 5, another Lebanese soldier was killed when an Israeli strike hit a military post in the Adaisseh border region, which also injured three other soldiers.
