Syria witnessed Russian and Israeli airstrikes on Sunday, targeting different locations with varying objectives.
Russian media reported that Russian air forces launched strikes on two militant sites in Syria, near the Al-Tanf area, which houses a U.S. military base. According to Oleg Ignatiuk, the deputy head of Russia’s reconciliation center in Syria, the militants had recently left the Al-Tanf area, close to the Jordanian border. He stated, “Russian air forces targeted two specific sites where militants had relocated from Al-Tanf.”
On the other hand, the Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that Israeli airstrikes targeted military sites in central Syria, resulting in material damage only. In a statement, the ministry said, “On Sunday evening, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial assault from the north of Lebanon, targeting several military positions in the central region, causing material losses.”
Earlier, the official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that Syrian air defenses had intercepted “hostile targets” in the central region’s airspace.
Additionally, an Israeli airstrike on Sunday targeted trucks in Syria transporting aid to Lebanon, injuring three aid workers, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
On Friday, Lebanese authorities reported that an Israeli airstrike had cut the main international highway linking Lebanon with Syria, specifically at the Al-Masna’a border point in the east.
