The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel’s attack on a field hospital set up by the Iranian Red Crescent on the Lebanon-Syria border, calling it a “war crime.” Despite the bombing, the Iranian Red Crescent announced its plans to establish another mobile medical center to provide aid to Lebanese refugees and treat those injured by Israeli airstrikes.
The Iranian Red Crescent’s affiliated newspaper, Shahrvand, reported that last Thursday, Israel bombed the field hospital, which had a capacity of 56 beds, on the Lebanon-Syria border. The attack caused a fire in the medicine and food supplies warehouse, destroyed medical equipment, damaged ambulances, and heavily affected various medical units, including the operating room.
While the medical staff remained unharmed, the newspaper emphasized, Pir Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent, stressed that the hospital’s banners and flags were clearly visible, leaving no doubt that it was a field hospital. “They were visible even from the sky,” he remarked.
Filing a Complaint
Kolivand deemed the Israeli attack a blatant violation of human rights and international law, which prohibits targeting medical facilities and emergency services. He vowed to file a complaint against Israel in international courts and organizations.
In a statement to Iranian state television on Saturday morning, Kolivand announced that preparations for a new field hospital, 40 kilometers away from the destroyed one, were already underway. This new hospital aims to alleviate the suffering of refugees and civilians affected by Israeli strikes.
The Iranian Red Crescent also sent letters to both Keti Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), urging them to condemn Israel’s assault on its field hospital on the Lebanon-Syria border.
