On Monday, Israeli forces set fire to another school in Jabalia, part of the ongoing large-scale attacks in northern Gaza. This latest assault brings the total number of schools burned by Israeli forces in the past two days to three, with Al-Kuwait, Aleppo, and Hamad schools all being targeted.
The Givati Brigade 432 has been identified as responsible for these attacks. Israeli forces have turned schools into targets as they have become shelters for displaced civilians fleeing the bombardment.
Since October 2023, Israeli forces have completely destroyed over 120 schools and universities and partially damaged 332 others, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
Last Thursday, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported another massacre in Jabalia refugee camp, when Israeli forces bombed Abu Hussein school, which was housing thousands of displaced people.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, expressed his concern that 100,000 residents of Jabalia are trapped, with no humanitarian aid reaching them for over three weeks.
Civilians Targeted Without Warning
Eyewitnesses have reported that Israeli forces have not given displaced people sufficient time to evacuate shelters before attacking. Nivin Dawwasa, a paramedic who witnessed an Israeli strike on a UNRWA shelter in Jabalia, recounted that 10 civilians were killed and more than 30 others were injured, the majority of whom were children.
Images shared by Al Jazeera depicted residents pulling the bodies of victims from the streets following Israeli airstrikes in Jabalia town this morning. Media outlets have also reported that Israeli forces targeted civilians, including children, who were attempting to gather water.
Backed by U.S. support, Israel’s continued attacks in Gaza since October 7, 2023, have resulted in over 142,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, more than 10,000 missing persons, and a devastating famine that has already claimed the lives of dozens of children and older people.
