Egyptian Intelligence Contacts Were Deliberate Sedatives, Claims Israeli Officer
Under the headline “Why is Cairo Ignoring the Houthi Operations in the Red Sea?” a former Israeli intelligence officer specializing in Egyptian affairs, Eli Dikla, attacked Egypt for its stance on this issue.
In an analytical article for Ma’ariv about regional interests, Dikla stated, “Egyptians have lost about two billion dollars due to damage to maritime traffic in the Suez Canal, yet they haven’t moved against the Houthis.”
Eli Dikla, a retired intelligence officer, discussed the Houthi threat to the Red Sea region. He noted, “Every missile that passes from Yemen impacts the Gulf of Suez and flies within a thousand kilometers of Egyptian territory. Within these thousands of kilometers, they can detect and inform us via radar or intercept if they wanted.”
He added, “The Houthis are significantly harming Egypt by damaging ships in the Red Sea, affecting Egypt’s revenue from the Suez Canal. According to recent reports, they’ve lost about two billion dollars so far. An unknown aircraft flying towards us could give us a strategic warning, but I’m not aware of Egypt doing that.”
Last month, Dikla pointed to Egyptian involvement, allegedly in Gaza, saying, “I tend to believe
the Egyptians are deeply engaged in Gaza. They’ve helped a lot in restoring Gaza after the last
war, removing all the rubble we bombed, and also building many projects. Then the Egyptian president declared he would donate half a billion dollars to rebuild Gaza.”
He suggested that the Israeli government should examine Egypt’s role in lulling Israel into a false
sense of security, saying, “Was all the communication we had with Egyptian intelligence deliberate sedatives as I’ve claimed?”
