Iran Reveals Messages Sent Through Intermediaries to New Syrian Administration
Yaqub Reza Zadeh, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy
Commission, stated that Tehran had sent indirect messages to the new Syrian administration.
According to the Mehr News Agency, Reza Zadeh mentioned that these messages were conveyed
through regional intermediaries, including countries involved in the Astana process and Arab
states.
He emphasized that the messages underscored the importance of ensuring the security of the
Iranian embassy in Damascus and the sanctity of holy shrines, such as those of Sayyida Zeinab
and Sayyida Ruqayya.
Reza Zadeh clarified that the new Syrian administration had made commitments not to harm
these sites, pointing out that the Iranian embassy had previously been attacked with limited
damage.
He further stated that Iran’s priority following recent developments in Syria is to protect the
country’s interests and sacred sites. Regarding Israel’s repeated attacks on Syria, he described
them as “criminal and barbaric,” expressing concern over the potential escalation in Lebanon.
The Iranian MP also affirmed that Tehran is earnestly striving to avoid causing harm to
neighboring countries, with a focus on protecting Iranian religious and diplomatic sites in the
region.
