Democratic Forces of Syria Show Readiness to Join Syrian Army
On Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) expressed their readiness to join the new Syrian army. Sky News quoted SDF’s media center director, Farhad Shami, saying, “We are ready to join the new Syrian army but it requires discussions.”
He added, “We are prepared for any war no matter the cost and also ready for the diplomatic option… We have been facing Ankara-backed factions for 20 days now.”
Shami continued, “Turkey is trying to control more Syrian territories,” adding, “We are an obstacle to Turkish ambitions in Syria.”
He further stated:
“Turkey is exploiting the power vacuum in Damascus to expand in Syrian regions… this is a colonial policy that cannot be ignored.”
He also clarified, “The PKK is present within Turkish borders… our forces are not on the border strip with Turkey but rather Kurdish security forces.”
Shami concluded
“There is no agreement regarding Manbij, and the American side insists it should remain neutral.”
He finished by saying, “There has been no violation from the SDF side… what Turkey says are
familiar arguments since 2011… Turkish plans go beyond the areas of northern and eastern
Syria.”
