Iraqi Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Visits UAE and Jordan
The Prime Minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, embarked on significant
diplomatic visits to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, highlighting the region’s commitment
to fostering regional stability and cooperation.
Visit to UAE:
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, welcomed Masrour Barzani at the
Qasr Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), discussions
between Sheikh Mohammed and Barzani focused on enhancing the relations between the UAE
and Iraq, particularly with the Kurdistan Region. The talks aimed at broadening the horizons of
cooperation that would benefit both brotherly peoples and contribute to achieving their
development and prosperity aspirations.
They also exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest.
Visit to Jordan:
Following his visit to the UAE, Barzani arrived in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday, January 19, 2025,
for an official visit intended to strengthen joint cooperation. Upon arrival, Barzani met with King
Abdullah II of Jordan. Both leaders emphasized that “Syria’s security and stability are essential
for regional stability.”
The discussions covered various cooperation prospects between Jordan and the Kurdistan
Region, aiming to expand these in multiple fields. Besides affirming the importance of Syrian
security and stability for the region, both leaders stressed the “need to sustain the ceasefire
agreement in Gaza and achieve comprehensive calm across the region.”
The talks also touched upon the “strong fraternal relations” between Jordan, the Kurdistan
Region, and Iraq. King Abdullah expressed his country’s keenness to enhance these relations
across all fields and conveyed his appreciation for President Masoud Barzani.
Barzani praised the efforts of the Kingdom under King Abdullah’s leadership towards “achieving
peace and stability in the Middle East.”
