Egyptian Mass Mobilization Against Trump’s Deportation Plan for Gaza Residents
In a significant display of solidarity, ten Egyptian professional unions, spearheaded by the Journalists Syndicate, have announced their support for the Palestinian cause and their staunch opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to deport Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan.
A press conference was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate in Cairo, where representatives from ten professional unions gathered to voice support for Egypt’s official stance against the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.
Khaled El-Balshy, head of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, declared that these unions have agreed on a series of activities to support the Palestinian people and reject any attempts at their displacement. Among these actions, the unions have decided to send a delegation to Rafah Crossing to express their support for the Palestinian struggle and to denounce Trump’s statements publicly. The exact date for this delegation’s movement will be announced later.
The unions have also committed to sending a formal letter to the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, condemning Trump’s remarks and affirming their commitment to a fair and comprehensive solution that includes the right of return and reconstruction of Gaza, rather than displacement.
Additionally,
The unions have agreed to dispatch letters to the United Nations, the European Commission, and various international organizations, rejecting Trump’s statements and calling for international action to prosecute war criminals, specifically those from the Zionist regime, and to push for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
El-Balshy urged all Egyptian newspapers, websites, and TV channels to feature a permanent banner on
their front pages, home pages, and screens, rejecting displacement under the slogans “Yes to
Reconstruction, No to Displacement, and Return is a Right.”
Starting from the following Thursday, Palestinian flags and banners will be displayed at the
headquarters of these unions, on their websites, and official social media pages, advocating for the right
of return and against displacement.
The syndicate also plans a joint action with the Arab Journalists Union and the Lawyers’ Syndicate to
prosecute war criminals involved in the genocide in Gaza and against the Palestinian people.
Moreover,
The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate will screen the Palestinian documentary “Zero Distance,” which
documents Israeli attacks on Gaza during the war, on the upcoming Wednesday.
Finally, there was an agreement between the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate and the Arab Journalists
Union to halt work in newsrooms on February 10th, marking 60 years since the establishment of the
Arab Journalists Union, as a gesture of solidarity with Palestinians, with plans to publish photos of
Palestinian martyrs from the conflict.
This collective action underscores Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of Palestinians,
advocating for peace, justice, and international law in addressing the Palestinian issue.
