Aoun: Lebanon Deserves a Period of Political and Security “Recovery”
On Thursday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized that the constitution and his oath of office serve as a roadmap for rebuilding Lebanon.
Meeting with Dignitaries at Baabda Palace
President Aoun welcomed Ammar Houry, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Waqf Al-Birr wal Ihsan and the Arab University of Beirut, along with a delegation, at the Baabda Presidential Palace. This was announced in a statement from the presidency.
Lebanon’s Need for Stability
Aoun stated, “Lebanon has grown weary of others’ wars fought on its soil and the internal strife among its politicians and officials. It has every right to enjoy a period of political, economic, and security recovery.” These remarks underscore his vision for a stable future amid ongoing challenges in Lebanese politics.
Confidence in the New Government
He noted that the government had secured the confidence of parliament the previous day. “We hope no one obstructs the implementation of its ministerial statement,” Aoun added. He highlighted that ministers are focused on contributing to state-building, a key priority in Lebanese politics today.
A Path Toward Progress
The president stressed, “We’ve set things on the right track. We hope everyone’s efforts and cooperation will align to achieve our shared goal of building a new state.” This reflects his optimism for collaborative progress in Lebanese governance.
Restoring Trust at Home and Abroad
Aoun also remarked, “The world is watching us. We must prove we can manage our country’s affairs with transparency and justice, preserving everyone’s dignity. This will rebuild trust between citizens and their state, as well as between Lebanon and the international community.” His words signal a commitment to transparency, a cornerstone of effective Lebanese politics.
Commitment to National Unity
Earlier, in his oath speech, President Aoun pledged to uphold the National Pact and the Taif Agreement, ensuring their implementation serves Lebanon’s supreme national interest. This reaffirms his dedication to unity and stability in a politically turbulent landscape.
