Israeli Military Intercepts 3 Rockets Launched from Lebanon Amid Ongoing Tensions
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Israeli military announced that it had detected and intercepted three rockets launched from Lebanon, with air raid sirens sounding at 07:32 and 07:34 in the Metula area near the Lebanese border. This incident represents a significant escalation, as it marks the first rocket attack from Lebanese territory since the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel was established. Consequently, the event highlights the fragile security situation in the region, despite diplomatic efforts to maintain peace.
Lebanon Faces Retaliatory Israeli Strikes
In response, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that 10 Israeli artillery shells fell on the outskirts of Yahmar al-Shaqif, Kafr Tabnit, and Arnoun in southern Lebanon. Additionally, Israeli forces targeted the towns of Houla, Markaba, and Kafr Kila with machine gun fire, while Merkava tank shells struck Khiam. Although these attacks indicate a strong Israeli retaliation, they also shed light on a recurring pattern of violence that undermines the ceasefire’s goals. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army has strengthened its presence in the south, attempting to maintain order despite Israel’s failure to adhere to the truce.
Ceasefire Violations and Israel’s Partial Withdrawal
Notably, the ceasefire agreement stipulated that Israel fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by February 18. However, Israel only carried out a partial withdrawal, continuing to occupy five key Lebanese positions. This persistent presence has fueled tensions, as Lebanon accuses Israel of violating the truce terms. For now, the situation remains volatile, with both sides seemingly prepared for further confrontations.
