With the participation of the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, the work of the 33rd Arab Summit began in the Bahraini capital, Manama.
The Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict and its developments are expected to top the Summit’s agenda.
President Abbas is set to deliver the speech and meet with a number of leaders participating in the Summit.
The Summit will discuss various issues related to joint Arab action in political, economic, social, cultural, and security fields.
The Summit gains great importance due to the precise timing in which it is held, with the continuation of the barbaric Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, in addition to the deteriorating humanitarian and political situation in a number of countries in the region.
The Summit’s draft includes an item on the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, activating the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli violations in the city of Jerusalem, supporting the budget of the State of Palestine and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
Additionally, they will follow up on colonial developments, the apartheid wall, detainees held inside occupation jails under unhuman conditions, refugees, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, chaired the 33rd session of the Arab Summit, began talking about the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause.
He called for the need to formulate a joint and urgent Arab and international position that adopts the path of dialogue and collective solidarity to stop the bleeding of wars and bring about a final and just peace.
“The Palestine Liberation Organization will remain the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”
Al Khalifa pointed out that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state will bring goodness to the entire region.
For his part, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud stressed the necessity of joint Arab action to immediately stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid, and the need for the international community to assume its responsibility.
He added, “the Kingdom hosted the extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, and a collective decision was issued to condemn this aggression and reject its justification under any pretext.”
He called for finding a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative in a way that guarantees the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital
