The spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, announced on Saturday that initial tests conducted on water stations and homes in Aswan have shown no signs of bacterial contamination or microbiological changes in the water supply.
Rise in Hospital Visits Due to Gastrointestinal Symptoms
Abdel Ghaffar noted a recent increase in the number of patients visiting hospitals in Aswan, reporting symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In response, the Prime Minister directed all relevant state agencies to investigate the source of these symptoms and provide support to affected individuals.
Decline in Hospitalized Cases
The health spokesperson highlighted an improvement in the situation, with the number of hospital admissions for treatment dropping from 63 to 25 cases.
Ministry’s Response and Preventive Measures
The Ministry of Health deployed a team from the Preventive Medicine Sector, led by Deputy Minister for Preventive Medicine, Amr Kandil. The team is working on three main fronts:
- Ensuring the safety of drinking water by taking samples for analysis.
- Monitoring hospitals to check patient numbers and ensure proper treatment.
- Inspecting street vendors and food outlets, as gastrointestinal symptoms are often linked to contaminated water or food.
These steps aim to identify and address the root cause of the health issues in Aswan.
