Real Madrid, currently second in La Liga, announced on Wednesday that their star French forward Kylian Mbappe has sustained an injury to his left thigh during Tuesday’s match against Deportivo Alavés, which ended in a 3-2 victory for the team.
In an official statement, the Spanish giants said, “After the medical tests conducted today on our player Kylian Mbappe by Real Madrid’s medical staff, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the left biceps femoris muscle.”
While Real Madrid did not specify how long Mbappe would be sidelined, Spanish media outlets have reported that he could be out for up to three weeks. Some reports also suggest that he might miss the upcoming match against Atlético Madrid on Sunday.
Mbappe, who was substituted in the 80th minute of the game, appeared to gesture towards his thigh as he left the field.
Since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year, the 25-year-old has been in excellent form, scoring seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions.
Real Madrid currently sits in second place in La Liga with 17 points, trailing Barcelona by just one point. However, Barcelona has played one game less and is set to face Getafe, who are second from the bottom, later on Wednesday.
