Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s Photo with Syrian-American Women Sparks Reactions
In an engaging development, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the head of the new Syrian administration, along with Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaabani, met with a delegation of Syrian-American women. This meeting was highlighted by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), which published a photograph on Monday showcasing Al-Sharaa in the middle of this female delegation from the Syrian community in the United States.

The image has sparked significant interaction among Syrians on social media platforms. Some
view it as a positive sign from the new administration, indicating openness towards Syrian
women’s initiatives. However, others see it as contradictory to Al-Sharaa’s known conservative
stances, particularly following an earlier incident where he was seen asking a girl to cover her
hair before taking a photo with him in public, which led to widespread discussion online.
Moreover, controversy has previously arisen when Al-Sharaa and other officials in the new Syrian
administration refused to shake hands with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during
her visit to Damascus.
