Turkish and US Foreign Ministers Discuss Syrian Developments, Gaza, and Regional Issues
In a significant diplomatic exchange, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and U.S. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio delved into recent developments in Syria and the ongoing situation in Gaza. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The dialogue extended to discussions on the Ukrainian dossier, highlighting the broader geopolitical concerns. Fidan emphasized the critical need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the urgency of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict for stability and peace in the region.
On his part, Rubio announced that the U.S. is open to proposals from Arab nations concerning Gaza. He stated, “The only plan from Trump isn’t favored by Arabs, so if they have a better plan, now is the time to present it.”
Prior to this, in a telephone conversation, both ministers affirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between Turkey and the United States as allies based on mutual respect and trust. They underscored the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing regional issues.
