Egypt Launches Sharp Attack on Israel Over Gaza Aid Blockade
Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to halt humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and close border crossings used for relief efforts. In a statement from its Foreign Ministry, Egypt labeled these actions a “flagrant violation” of the ceasefire agreement, international humanitarian law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and all religious principles.
The Egyptian government emphasized that there is no justification—logical, circumstantial, or otherwise—for using starvation and siege as weapons against innocent civilians, especially during Ramadan, to target the Palestinian people. Egypt urged the international community to take responsibility for halting these “illegitimate and inhumane” practices and to denounce attempts to achieve political goals by endangering civilian lives.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty had previously stressed the need for both parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement, including prisoner exchanges and unrestricted humanitarian aid access. “There’s a three-phase ceasefire deal,” he said. “We’ve completed the first phase, and now we must fulfill the remaining commitments and quickly negotiate the second phase.” He underscored the urgency of delivering humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid to Gaza, adding, “We will not hesitate in this effort.”
On Sunday:
Israel suspended aid truck deliveries to Gaza amid a growing crisis threatening the ceasefire, which had paused six weeks of fighting. Hamas called on Qatari and Egyptian mediators to intervene. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that, effective Sunday morning, “the entry of goods and supplies to Gaza is suspended.” Netanyahu added, “Israel will not accept a ceasefire without the release of our hostages. If Hamas persists in its refusal, there will be further consequences.”
Hamas condemned Israel’s move as “cheap blackmail” and a “war crime,” urging mediators to pressure Israel to end its “punitive and unethical measures.” Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for the “immediate” resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza on Sunday. His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said Guterres “urges all parties to make every effort to avoid resuming hostilities in Gaza” and demands the release of all hostages.
