Completing the drafting of the Gaza reconstruction plan… and starving the sector is not permitted.
Egypt announced on Sunday the completion of a comprehensive Gaza reconstruction plan, firmly rejecting the use of starvation as a weapon in the region.
During a joint press conference with the European Union Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs, Dubravka Šuica, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated, “We have finalized the drafting of the Gaza reconstruction plan, which will be presented at the emergency Arab Summit next Tuesday.”
Abdelatty emphasized that the plan “will not be shared with any foreign party before it is approved by the emergency Arab Summit.” This underscores Egypt’s commitment to coordinating with Arab nations first.
On a related note, the minister affirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to initiate negotiations for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Abdelatty stressed that “using humanitarian aid as a tool for collective punishment and starvation in Gaza is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
His remarks came in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision earlier that day to halt aid deliveries to Gaza. The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement concluded on Saturday, with Israel pushing to extend it while Hamas insists on transitioning to the second phase, which would effectively end the war.
Egypt’s stance highlights its dual focus: rebuilding Gaza and ensuring humanitarian relief amid ongoing tensions. The reconstruction plan is poised to address the extensive damage in the region, while negotiations remain critical to securing lasting peace.
