With Syrian Government’s Approval, UN Extends Aid Delivery to Northern Syria
On Tuesday, the United Nations approved its eighth mandate for the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid through the Bab al-Salameh and Al-Rai border crossings in the countryside of Aleppo for an additional three months, ending on February 5, 2025.
Mid-August last year, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs welcomed the Syrian government’s consent to continue using the Bab al-Salam and Al-Rai border crossings with Turkey for humanitarian aid deliveries until November 13 of this year, targeting northwest Syria.
With Syrian Government ‘s Approval, UN Extends Aid Delivery to Northern Syria
The Syrian government agreed to the UN’s proposal for aid to pass through Bab al-Salam and Al-Rai following the devastating February 2022 earthquake, which caused significant human and material losses in both Syria and Turkey.
During the seventh mandate, which ran from August to the current November, 15 trucks entered through the Bab al-Salameh crossing, while no shipments reached the Al-Rai crossing, according to the “Syria Response Coordinators” team.
Meanwhile, aid deliveries through the Bab al-Hawa crossing have continued since July 13 of last year under the third mandate, set to expire mid-January next year.
