AS Roma announced on Wednesday the dismissal of head coach and former midfield star Daniele De Rossi due to poor performance at the start of the season.
Roma failed to secure a victory in their first four Serie A matches, recording three draws and one loss. This disappointing start placed the team 16th in the league standings, just two points above the relegation zone.
In an official statement, Roma said, “De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach.” The club added, “This decision is made in the best interest of the team to get back on track as quickly as possible, while the season is still in its early stages.” Roma also mentioned that they would announce a new coaching staff soon.
De Rossi’s Legacy
Daniele De Rossi, 41, is a club icon, having played for Roma from 2001 to 2019. During his time as a player, he won two Coppa Italia titles with the team.
De Rossi was appointed as head coach in January after the sacking of Portuguese coach José Mourinho. The club extended his contract in June until 2027, but the poor start to the current season led to his early departure.
