At least five people were killed Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike on Baalchmay, a village east of Beirut, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported. A security source told Agence France-Presse that the strike targeted a home inhabited by displaced families.
The Ministry stated, “The Israeli airstrike on Baalchmay resulted in an initial toll of five fatalities and two injuries.” The security source confirmed that the strike hit a residential home in the mountainous Aley region, far from Israel’s border and rarely targeted, where displaced families, including women and children, were residing.
This incident follows a similar deadly airstrike in northern Lebanon that killed eight members of a displaced family, according to the Ministry of Health.
Israel has conducted periodic airstrikes on Lebanese towns and villages, often targeting vehicles, individuals, or apartments. Reports frequently suggest these targets are linked to Hezbollah.
On Tuesday morning, Israel conducted additional airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs after issuing evacuation warnings for four neighborhoods, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency.
