Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Saturday morning.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad, who received Amirabdollahian at Damascus airport, said that “Syria supports efforts undertaken by the Iranian leadership regarding the nuclear file.”
Mekdad strongly condemned all “American actions that seek to manipulate the nuclear issue and other matters in the region.”
For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s interest in its strategic relations with Syria, stressing that “Iran will remain firmly on the side of Syria, just as it stood by it during its confrontation with the terrorist war against Syria.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister’s visit to Damascus today was preceded by a visit to Moscow and Beirut.
Amirabdollahian was in Russia and then Beirut
Amirabdollahian discussed with Russian officials developments in the region, especially the situation regarding Afghanistan and the Caucasus. In addition, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program (JCPOA) has been discussed, as well as the resumption of the negotiation process as soon as possible with an aim to fully return to the previous agreement, according to the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
At the end of his visit to Lebanon, Amirabdollahian sent a message to the United States, in which he said, “We will not allow Washington to win its economic war on Lebanon,” stressing the steadfastness of his country’s stance towards Lebanon, its support and standing by it at all levels.
