The terrorist attack on the Sayyidah Zeinab area in Damascus, orchestrated by the ISIS terrorist group, was a horrifying act of violence that shook the region.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack that targeted a hotspot for Muslims who visit Syria’s Sayyidah Zeinab to perform religious pilgrimages, commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on Thursday.
The announcement came in a statement broadcasted by the terrorist organization on Telegram.
The group also claimed responsibility for another attack in the same area earlier this week, which resulted in the injury of two individuals.
The explosion that occurred on Thursday claimed the lives of six martyrs and injured around 23 others as a result of a blast from an explosive-laden motorcycle.
On Tuesday, another attack via an explosive-laden motorcycle took place in the area, targeting an empty civilian bus near the Al-Rawda roundabout and injuring two civilians, Damascus Countryside Police stated.
Commenting on the terrorist attacks, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Friday that the perpetrators of the bombing in the Sayyidah Zeinab area in Damascus are terrorist extremists with a clear objective.
Sayyed Nasrallah assured that the followers of Ahl Al-Bayt in Syria would commemorate Ashura with great intensity despite the terrorist attempts aimed at frightening them.
It is worth noting that Imam Hussein and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in southern Iraq in 680 AD after a courageous fight for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
