National Security Council spokesman Kirby spoke to reporters off-camera, and covered a number of topics.
What he said echoed what Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said about the region. He underscored the White House position that when it comes to the conflict, Israel’s war on Gaza, the only solution is a two-state solution in the eyes of the US.
He also commented on that tragic killing – the Israeli assassination of two women inside a church, a mother and a daughter, that we also know has been condemned by the Roman Catholic pope.
The White House, we understand, is raising concerns with Israel about the Gaza church sniper shooting, and John Kirby commented on that, saying that every civilian death is a tragedy.
In terms of humanitarian aid, we know the goal has been about 150 trucks a day, according to Kirby in past briefings. He said as of yesterday, the humanitarian aid, in terms of trucks crossing through Rafah, was just 80 trucks.
As for the CIA director and the director of Mossad, with regard to the meeting [between them] that is taking place, what we know is the National Security spokesperson said there’s going to have to be a lot of discussion because there’s certainly no imminent deal as of yet in terms of trying to get any captives released.
