Jordan’s Minister of Government Communication and official government spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Momani, reaffirmed that Jordan’s position remains clear: it will not be a battleground for any party. He emphasized that protecting Jordan and its citizens is the government’s top priority. Al-Momani’s statement came in response to recent regional developments, particularly Iran’s launch of over 200 ballistic missiles toward Israel, with several passing through Jordanian airspace.
Al-Momani confirmed that fragments of missiles landed in various parts of the kingdom, causing no critical injuries, though three minor injuries were reported. The minister also mentioned material damage, and efforts to assess the extent of the damage are ongoing.
The minister further clarified that updates on the incident were consistently provided by the Jordanian Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Public Security Directorate, and the Civil Aviation Authority.
Jordanian Public’s Response
Al-Momani praised the Jordanian public for their high level of awareness in handling such crises, urging everyone to follow official instructions for public safety. He stressed the importance of avoiding rumors and relying only on information from official sources.
Earlier, the Jordanian Armed Forces had advised citizens to remain in their homes, while the authorities temporarily closed the country’s airspace following Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
In an official statement, the Jordanian Armed Forces urged “citizens to stay in their homes for their safety and that of their families.”
Military Response
A military source within the Jordanian Armed Forces later confirmed that “all formations and units are on high alert to counter any threats to the kingdom’s security and stability.”
The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission in Jordan temporarily suspended air traffic in the kingdom’s airspace due to the Iranian missile strikes on Israel, before later reopening the skies after the situation stabilized.
Reports from CNN indicated that Jordanian forces actively participated in intercepting the Iranian missiles, while Agence France-Presse quoted a statement from the Jordanian Public Security Directorate that the Royal Jordanian Air Force and air defense systems intercepted multiple missiles and drones that entered Jordanian airspace.
Public Safety Measures
The Jordanian Public Security Directorate urged citizens to “heed warnings from the army regarding the interception of missiles and drones that entered Jordan’s airspace.” Social media users in Jordan shared images and videos of missiles crossing the skies and debris falling in various regions.
A statement from Jordan’s Ministry of Interior confirmed “the fall of several debris fragments in different governorates” and urged citizens to “follow instructions and stay indoors as it is the safest option under these emergency circumstances to ensure their safety.”
The statement also advised people to avoid approaching debris or gathering near it until specialized teams arrive and to report any fallen objects to prevent further harm.
Iran’s Strike on Israel
Hours earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced it had launched missiles at what it described as significant security and military targets in Israel, claiming that 90% of the missiles hit their targets accurately. Iran had previously launched hundreds of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles at Israel in April, with some falling within Jordanian territory.
