A double attack involving drones and rockets, launched by Hezbollah, killed 4 Israeli soldiers and injured 67 others on Sunday. The attack targeted Haifa in northern Israel, marking the deadliest strike since the war began.
The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that 4 soldiers were killed and 67 injured after a drone exploded in Binyamina, south of Haifa. However, the army did not specify whether all casualties were military personnel.
Details of the Attack
A senior Hezbollah leader told to media that the Binyamina operation was carried out using a swarm of explosive drones. He emphasized that Hezbollah’s resistance capabilities remain strong, capable of reaching deep into Israeli territory.
Hezbollah’s statement confirmed the attack targeted a training camp for the Golani Brigade in Binyamina. The group stated that the operation was in retaliation for Israeli assaults on Beirut’s Nuweiri and Basta neighborhoods, as well as other areas in Lebanon.
Israeli media reported that one of Hezbollah’s drones struck a dining hall where soldiers were present, although the Israeli army has yet to confirm this detail.
Defense System Failure
According to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, no sirens went off in the targeted area before the drones hit. Israeli army radio cited a military source who admitted that air defense systems failed to detect the drones, and an investigation is underway to determine why.
The army also confirmed that two drones were launched, one intercepted near Nahariya, but the Binyamina drone went undetected. Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the drones were launched under the cover of rocket fire aimed at the Galilee.
Civilian Impact
Following the attack, Israel’s Home Front Command advised residents of Safed and the Upper Galilee to stay near fortified shelters and avoid gatherings.
