Voluntary Return Procedures for Syrians from Turkey
The Turkish Directorate of Migration Management issued a detailed statement on Sunday regarding the voluntary return and visitation procedures for Syrians holding temporary protection cards in Turkey. The statement specifies five border crossings available for this purpose, emphasizing that all measures have been taken to ensure a voluntary, safe, dignified, and organized return in line with civilizational values for Syrians wishing to return to their homeland.
The designated border crossings for voluntary return are:
- Gülübağ-Gözü (opposite Bab al-Hawa)
- Yayladağı (Kessab)
- Oncupinar (Bab al-Salam)
- Karkamış (Jarabulus)
- Akçakale (Tal Abyad)
According to the statement, the process of voluntary return begins with booking an appointment via a dedicated website. Following this, the individual should proceed to the migration management office in the province where they reside to coordinate their return, then head to the pre-determined border crossing for exit from Turkey and entry into Syrian territory.
The statement also outlines provisions allowing one family member under temporary protection to visit Syria to assess conditions there, facilitating arrangements for potentially bringing their family back to Syria later. Two additional border crossings have been designated for such visits:
- Cobanbey (Al-Rai)
- Zeytin Dalı (Olive Branch/Al-Hamam/Afrin)
It is mandatory for those visiting Syria to exit and return through the same crossing. The guidelines allow family heads three entries and exits from January 1 to July 1, 2025. If the family head is unable to travel, another adult family member can exercise this right on behalf of the family.
