Saudi and U.S. Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments
In a recent phone call, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his U.S. counterpart, Antony Blinken, discussed the latest regional developments and the ongoing efforts to address them.
The U.S. Department of State stated in a release that Blinken “reaffirmed U.S. support for a peaceful, Syrian-led political transition towards an inclusive, representative, and accountable government.” During the call, Blinken emphasized the “shared goal of the international community to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Syrians, including minorities, and to prevent Syria from being used as a base for terrorism.”
Blinken also stressed “the necessity for the international community to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid throughout Syria” and thanked the Saudi government for its aid to the Syrian people.
According to the statement, the Ministers also discussed “ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that would ensure the release of all hostages and increase humanitarian assistance.”
Furthermore, the conversation touched on “the implementation of a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, and the continued support for legitimate security institutions in Lebanon, such as the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces.”
