Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has discussed developments in the Middle East in a phone call with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
The Egyptian leader spoke with Dutch minister about the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, highlighting his country’s efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
He warned that a prolonging of the Israel-Hamas war could lead to an expansion of the conflict, jeopardizing regional and international security.
El-Sisi urged the need for the international community to support a ceasefire and protect civilians in Gaza.
Rutte praised Egypt’s protection of civilians and evacuation of foreign nationals and injured people from the enclave.
The Netherlands is supporting Egypt’s efforts to deliver relief to Gaza and will maintain close coordination in an effort to achieve regional stability, he added.
On Wednesday, El-Sisi received Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and discussed the tense regional situation, Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy said.
El-Sisi warned of the danger of regional military escalation on multiple fronts, urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
He also highlighted the importance of providing urgent humanitarian aid to the enclave.
Gerapetritis said his country supports Egypt’s role as an “indispensable cornerstone” for stability in the Middle East.
Both sides agreed on the need to achieve a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, describing the matter as the central factor in regional peace and security.
