The government of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Sunday denounced Israeli deadly strikes on southern Gaza, urging the world not to “remain silent in the face of this endless massacre.”
“The most recent bombing in the Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people, is unacceptable,” read a statement from the presidency.
At least 92 people were killed and 300 wounded on Saturday in an Israeli strike on Al-Mawasi, an Israeli-designated “safe zone” on the Mediterranean coast.
Gaza’s civil defence agency said another 20 were killed in an Israeli strike on a makeshift mosque at Al-Shati refugee camp in the territory’s north.
This comes as Israeli warplanes on Sunday staged a fifth attack in eight days on a Gaza school sheltering war displaced, killing at least 12 Palestinians and wounding dozens, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported citing local sources.
On Tuesday, a Gaza hospital source said at least 29 people were killed and dozens wounded in an Israeli strike on the Al-Awda school in Abasan, near the southern city of Khan Younis.
Another UNRWA-run school in Nuseirat was hit on Monday, killing at least four people, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency, with a local hospital saying several people were taken for treatment.
The prior day 16 people were killed and 75 injured in yet another Israeli strike on a UN-run school.
“It is appalling that they continue to collectively punish the Palestinian people. Tens of thousands have already died in successive attacks since last year, many of them in delimited humanitarian zones that should be protected,” said the statement.
“We, the political leaders of the democratic world, cannot remain silent in the face of this endless massacre.”
Brazil in May withdrew its ambassador from Israel over its bloodiest-ever war on Gaza, ratcheting up tensions after he earlier accused the country’s government of genocide.
Israel reacted furiously, declaring the Brazilian leader persona non grata.
Israel’s relentless bombardment and ground invasion has killed at least 38,584 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the most recent toll by the health ministry.
An analysis published by The Lancet medical journal, says the actual Palestinian death toll in Gaza could exceed 186,000 people.
The nine-month assault has also wounded more than 88,881 Palestinians, while an Israeli siege has pushed more than half a million to the brink of starvation.
