Germany has condemned a conference of far-right groups in Israel attended by some cabinet ministers that has called for settlement to be reintroduced in the Gaza Strip and more to be built in the West Bank.
The participation of more than a dozen ministers and speeches made at the gathering in occupied East Jerusalem were unacceptable, German Federal Foreign Office spokesman Sebastian Fischer said.
“Such considerations for the expulsion of the Palestinian population from Gaza and rebuilding Israeli settlements there are totally unacceptable. They contribute to a worsening of the situation in the current conflict and clearly violate international law,” he said.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the participation of parts of the Israeli government at this re settlement conference and clearly reject the statements made there.”
