Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stressed on Wednesday the need to end the Gaza war in separate phone calls with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The calls focussed on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
Egypt’s top diplomat reiterated the need to stop the ongoing war in Gaza during his call with Borrell, describing it as the main reason for the widening conflict in the Middle East.
He also urged influential countries to intervene and pressure Israel to stop its policy of brinkmanship, assassinations, and violations of other countries’ sovereignty.
“There is no alternative to the two-state solution,” Abdelatty told Borrell.
He called on the EU and all the peace process partners to intensify efforts to stop Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians and work seriously for the establishment and recognition of the Palestinian state.
Furthermore, Abdelatty exchanged views with Sheikh Bin Zayed on the latest developments in Gaza and the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and deliver much-needed aid during their call.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid, he emphasized that the Gaza war must end as soon as possible.
For his part, Sheikh Bin Zayed stressed the need for continued coordination and communication on regional issues and challenges to prevent the outbreak of a wider war that would threaten the stability and security of the whole region.
Diplomatic efforts to contain the escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah have intensified as fears grow of a widening conflict after Israel assassinated Hezbollah military chief Fouad Shukur in Beirut and Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Cairo continues its painstaking efforts to end the conflict, with FM Abdelatty discussing the latest developments in Gaza and the region by phone with several global counterparts.
On Wednesday, Abdelatty discussed the crises in Gaza, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, and the Red Sea over the phone with his British, Cypriot, Iraqi, Moroccan, Chinese, Iranian, and Kenyan counterparts.
