G42, a UAE-based leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, has announced a partnership with NVIDIA to boost climate technology by focusing on developing AI-powered solutions aimed at significantly improving weather forecasting on a global scale.
The collaboration builds upon the NVIDIA Earth-2 platform, an open-source initiative designed to accelerate the process of climate and weather prediction using high-resolution AI-enhanced simulations. This platform aims to revolutionize how weather data is analyzed and forecasted worldwide.
In the first phase of their partnership, G42 and NVIDIA will develop a kilometer-scale weather prediction model. This model is designed to enhance the accuracy of weather forecasts. A key aspect of this initiative is the creation of a new operations center and a technical climate lab in Abu Dhabi, which will serve as a dedicated research and development hub. This underscores both companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability.
The new center will drive efforts to develop customized climate and weather solutions, utilizing over 100 petabytes of geological data. Peng Xiao, CEO of G42, emphasized that this initiative with NVIDIA reflects their commitment to leveraging AI to address the world’s most urgent challenges. He noted that the establishment of the Earth-2 Climate Lab in Abu Dhabi will capitalize on the expertise of both parties to analyze data for a sustainable future.
