Hezbollah recently announced that it had targeted Israel’s Ramat David Airbase and military industry complexes with “Fadi 1” and “Fadi 2” rockets, in retaliation for Israeli attacks on various Lebanese regions that caused civilian casualties.
What are the capabilities of the Fadi rockets?
Hezbollah used the Fadi 1 and Fadi 2 rockets for the first time in these strikes against Israeli targets. Here are the key specifications:
- Fadi 1: It has a range of 80 kilometers and a diameter of 220 mm.
- Fadi 2: This rocket has a longer range, reaching 105 kilometers, with a diameter of 303 mm.
Both models are equipped with GPS guidance systems, enhancing their precision in targeting.
Origin of the name “Fadi”
The rockets are named after Fadi Hassan Tawil, a Hezbollah fighter who was killed in May 1987 during a confrontation with Israeli forces. Lebanese media reported that Fadi Tawil was the brother of Wissam Tawil, a prominent commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit, who was assassinated by Israel in January 2024.
This new development showcases Hezbollah’s expanding missile capabilities and its ongoing military confrontations with Israel.
